Opening up a new chapter for Canon Lee School in York are two new wrought iron gates leading to Queen Anne Court.
The enclosed grassed area behind the old Canon Lee building and the new extension has been named after Queen Anne School which closed in the summer.
Many of the teachers and pupils from Queen Anne moved on to Canon Lee.
The two gates have been made by Darren Semark, from York, whose son, Daniel, is a Year Ten pupil at Canon Lee.
They are decorated on one side with the Canon Lee badge, a shield topped with three white roses, and on the other side, with the Queen Anne badge, showing a sphinx.
They were paid for by a variety of donations including one from the Canon Lee Association and one from the Queen Anne School governors.
The court, which is crossed by a covered walkway linking the two buildings, has been grassed over to provide a quiet area for pupils and staff.
Head teacher Kevin Deadman said it was hoped to add sculptures and benches over the next few months.
