On-the-ball twins Jenna and Leah Rogers have both signed for Leeds United's girls' school of excellence.

The talented 11-year-olds, from Camblesforth, near Selby, were spotted by coaches at a Leeds United summer coaching course where they were the only girls among 140 young footballers.

They also impressed Elland Road coaches at a football in the community course at Camblesforth Primary School.

Jenna, a striker, and Leah, who plays centre back, were two of only 13 players taken on for the Elland Road under-12s squad, the first FA-approved girls' school of excellence, following four weeks of trials.

They both play for Moorends Hornets under-12s team in the first division of the Skylark Young Ladies League, and now attend Brayton High School.

A Leeds United spokesman said they wanted to enhance the reputation of the girls' game, and increase the amount of home-grown talent. Attendance at the school of excellence was by in invitation only, and they only selected players deemed to be elite.

Speaking at their home at the Oaklands, Camblesforth, the girls' parents, Paula and Tony Rogers, said they were very proud of their football-mad daughters, who are both Leeds United fans.

Mrs Rogers said: "They started kicking a ball around when they were two years old. They love their football and can't wait for their weekend matches."
