Flood warnings were still out in Ryedale and York today, with more rain predicted later on in the week.
An Environment Agency spokesman said flood warnings remained at Welham Road, in Norton, and at Buttercrambe and Stamford Bridge, though river levels were dropping.
"In Malton and Norton the River Derwent peaked at around eight feet above normal levels," he said.
"It is dropping very slowly, but it has gone down. However, we are expecting further rain this week so we are continuing to monitor the situation and urge people to remain vigilant."
Flood warnings remained in place in York today - as an advertisement proclaiming the city "back in business" following last month's floods was due for its first television airing.
King's Staith, Queen's Staith and St George's Field car park were particularly affected after the River Ouse peaked last night at 12ft 4in above normal.
The advertisement, featuring gargoyles superimposed on top of York Minster, was due to be shown on Yorkshire and Tyne Tees tonight and will be aired throughout the week.
The Evening Press-backed York's Here marketing campaign is behind the advert, which is aimed at showing the city is back in business after the floods.
The river was at 11ft 8in above normal today.
An Environment Agency spokesman said the river was falling slowly, but expected it to stay high for at least two days.
