ST Leonard's Hospice would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped to make our very special Light Up A Life Christmas tree at York Railway station such a success once again.
Every light on the tree celebrates the life of someone special, and their names are recorded in our special Book of Honour on display at the Hospice in Tadcaster Road. Every sponsored light means we are closer to achieving the £2 million target of our Millennium appeal.
The service we held to mark the switching on of the lights on December 3 was attended by more than 300 people. They enjoyed some wonderful singing from the choir of St Wilfrid's primary school and fine music from the Golden Rail Band, and joined us after the service for seasonal refreshments.
We are very grateful to St Wilfrid's and to the band; both give the Hospice continuing and generous support.
Our warmest thanks go also to Robert Bone, station projects manager, for GNER, who performed the switch-on ceremony for us, and to all his staff. GNER generously provided the Christmas tree for the third year, and their unstinting helpfulness and care has once again made this special event a really appropriate start to the season.
It is not too late to sponsor a light on the tree. Readers can find out how to do so by telephoning St Leonard's Hospice fundraising centre on 01904 781576.
We wish everyone a very peaceful Christmas.
