I MUST write in defence of the Travelodge criticised by York Civic Trust. They have tried to make it blend in with its surroundings as far as they could - and it is a great improvement to what was on the site previously. As for it obstructing the view of the Minster, you can see the Minster from other parts of the Bar Walls.
I was born in York and have lived her all my life. I love and appreciate its history and beauty. But I also know York has a commercial heart and mixing historical and commercial is difficult. The Travelodge has achieved this by building a hotel and being sensitive to the historic nature of the area. So well done Travelodge.
