Celebrating their school's success in primary school performance tables published today are pupils at English Martyrs' RC Primary School in York.
All the pupils at English Martyrs who took national tests in maths and science in the summer reached the expected level, level four, and 97 per cent reached it in English, coming top in the city.
Christine Johnson, acting headteacher at English Martyrs, said: "We are very proud to have maintained this high degree of success. Once again it is a culmination of hard work by pupils, staff, parents and governors. We wish our children continued success in their secondary schools."
Across York, 78 per cent of last year's Year Six children reached level four in English, 74 per cent in maths and 86 per cent in science. The City of York Council came top in the Yorkshire and Humberside area for the amount of improvement in English and maths results over the last three years.
Chris Edwards, acting education director, said: "These fantastic results are recognition of the hard work headteachers, teachers and classroom assistants have put into the literacy and numeracy strategies.
"Work in the City of York is recognised by the DfEE and OFSTED as amongst the best in the country."But he added that tables were only part of the story and that primary schools were also about developing the arts, sport, health education and personal and social development in a "rich and rewarding curriculum".
