New Easwick beat 1999 champions Thornaby 83-69 in the Yorkshire League.

Anthony Scruton's rink of Ralph Tiplady, Ron Walker and Bill Waldie came from 7-5 down after eight ends to beat the rink skipped by Scruton's Yorkshire team colleague Alan Jones 31-16.

Ken Harrison, John Snowden, Barry Johnson and Tony Taylor scored three at the last two ends to win 18-13.

Playing at Thornaby, Gary Bunce, Paul Dawson, Ken Lippett and Dave Birch scored four, five and two at the first three ends and went on to win 24-16.

Ken Fort, Bob Howland, Barry Harrison and Harry Rhodes lost 24-10 at Thornaby. The New Earswick rink won the first end by one shot, but their opponents scored nine before the New Earswick rink recovered to cut the deficit to five shots at 14-9.

New Earswick got ten points for the victory to Thornaby's four points.

York beat Scarborough 85-67 in their Yorkshire League match.

Stuart Bryan, Michael Bruce, Fred Clayden and Russ Barton beat Steve Taylor's rink 27-12 after talking an 18-shot lead.

Paul Mooring, John Emmerson, John Walker and Dudley Williams scored only two in the first ten ends against Barry Ness at York. But after being 13-4 down they forged ahead 17-13 to leave Scarborough needing a four to tie on the last end. Ness's team failed and lost the game 19-18.

At Scarborough, York's Mick Parker, Dave Hewick, Graham Brooke and Phil Parsons always had the edge on their opponents in winning 20-16.

Iain Boyle, Mal Harrison, Geoff Walker and Graham Instone dropped three shots on the first end and were 7-1 down after four ends. They pulled it back to 10-8 before the home team won five consecutive ends to lead 19-8 on their way to winning 21-19.

York gained 12 points out of a possible 14 from this victory to stay top of their group.

In the Hebdon Trophy, New Earswick won all four rinks in beating Scarborough 108-61 to take a maximum 14 points, while York won all four in beating Hornsea 106-66 to also get maximum points.

New Earswick's Eric Ward, Gordon Thompson, George Williams and Dennis Ellis scored 13 on the last five ends to win 30-12.

Ken Carter, Alf Lewis, Tommy Haldon and John Allan won 11 of the last 12 ends to lead 14-2 at Huntington Road and went on to win 23-15.

At Scarborough, Ken Plowman, Dave Sykes, Dave Hutchinson and Paul Jackson fought back in style from being 8-1 down to win 28-14.

Mal Beavers, Ron Wood, Mick Stannard and Alistair Sugden were losing 15-2 after nine ends but won all but three of the remaining ends and took the game 27-20.

York's Ted Boyle, Gordon Walker, Chris Lea and John Berridge scored four shots at the 12th end to lead 13-12 at Hornsea. Although York dropped a five and three on the 17th and 18th ends it did not stop them winning 26-21.

Brian Thomas. Phil Reeves, Geoff Oglesby and Ken Hutson scored four on the 12th end to lead 14-10 and dropped a four on the last end but won 23-19.

At York, Eric Hodgson, Mal Thompson, Phil Scott and Dave Dale were 10-0 up after three ends and won 33-15. Alwyn Johnson, Peter Littlewood and Alan Storey were 9-1 up after six ends and won 24-11.

York men continued their good run at the top of the Yorkshire group in the National Top Ten Tournament with wins in the singles, pairs and fours against Ryedale.

The only defeat was John Emmerson, Dave Hewick and Russ Barton, losing 20-17 in the triples. But the aggregate points for a home win were gained with Paul Mooring and Graham Instone winning 25-16 in the pairs.

At Ryedale, David Stroughair won the singles 21-11 and Iain Boyle, Gordon Smith, Graham Brooke and Doug Mitchell won the fours 23-16.

York Ladies staged a great escape in their North Eastern League game against Scarborough. York, who were 52-25 down after ten ends, 64-45 behind after 15 ends and 72-16 down after 18, drew level in the last three ends to draw the match 79-79.

Margaret Smith, Doreen Arnett, Pat Ellis and Pat Lofthouse tied at 14-14 after 14 ends, lost only one of the remaining ends and scored 16 shots as they won 29-15.

Claris Johnston, Doreen Fennell, Jean Williams and Pat Teasdale lost the last end by one shot as they drew 17-17.

At Scarborough, Pat Bracken, Marilyn Andrews, Ann Fowler and Marjorie Elvidge scored a three on the last end to cut their defeat to 18-16.

Sue Kirkpatrick, Doreen Giles, Ann Coatesworth and Norma Reed had difficulty in finding the pace of the green and were 26-0 down after only 12 ends. They won seven of the remaining nine ends, scoring a four and a three on the last two, and reduced the deficit to 29-17.
