A York couple have donated a 30ft Christmas tree to the villagers of Stamford Bridge to try to bring some Christmas cheer after the recent floods.
Jim and Sue Boldry, of Stockton-on-the-Forest, have given the village a Norway spruce tree for the main square.
The parish council normally buys a tree from the couple, who have a Christmas tree farm, but this year the couple have donated the tree because of the terrible after-effects of the floods.
Sue Boldry said: "I just felt so sorry for the people who live in the village that we decided to bring some Christmas cheer to them. Businesses and homes have been so badly affected.
"The floods were absolutely terrible and shops and businesses are just picking up the pieces ready for Christmas."
