Plans have been unveiled for a new Learning Centre for the College of Ripon and York St John in Lord Mayor's Walk.
A model of the new Learning Centre, which would be located on Clarence Street if given the go-ahead, has gone on display at the college.
The new project - part of the college's transformation programme announced last year - has already attracted £3.4 million of Government funding.
The centre will be designed to provide a one-stop shop learning for students and the community - with books, journals, media materials, archives and access to computers.
Student Union president Victoria Brown said: "Whilst the plans will not benefit students currently at the college, the combination of York's heritage and the superb new facilities will create an even greater attraction for future students.
"If the proposals get the go-ahead it will be excellent news for the whole commu-nity."
A decision on the planning application is expected early in the Spring.
