GOAL-GETTER Kevin Hulme revealed a double cause for celebration after snatching the winning goal in York City's 2-1 triumph over Shrewsbury Town.

The midfield match-winner came off the bench to grab all three points for City and later confessed he was also celebrating his 33rd birthday.

Hulme, who also scored a late winner against Torquay in City's last appearance at Bootham Crescent, admitted the goal and win more than made up for having to be content with a place on the bench.

"I was a bit disappointed not to be in the starting 11, but the manager picks his team and you have to stand by that," he said.

"But I was happy to get on and get the winner, especially as it was my birthday."

Hulme admitted City were fortunate to claim all three points.

"It was a very poor game. To be fair, we were perhaps lucky we were playing Shrewsbury because a better team would have turned us over.

"The gaffer emphasised that in the changing rooms and as luck would have it we have played a pretty average team."

The only other highlight of a largely forgettable encounter was David McNiven's eighth goal for the club.

The 22-year-old finished off a flowing move of one-touch football from City with a stunning volley to give the Minstermen the lead on 25 minutes.
