York Acorn's hopes of Silk Cut Challenge Cup glory were dashed at the first hurdle when they were beaten 18-0 at home by a good Simms Cross outfit.
The visitors from Cheshire had that little bit extra in both defence and attack and deservedly made it through to the second round.
The York side fell behind on eight minutes when second rower Brian Capewell slotted over a penalty awarded for raking the ball out in the tackle.
Good ball retention then saw Simms go from their own 20 to the Acorn 20 and then ship the ball out to former Widnes player David Myers who went over, Capewell adding the extras and then kicking a second penalty.
Simms, top of the North West Counties premier division, were denied more first-half scores by good Acorn defence, in which Rich Warren, Lee Frank and Nicky Caldwell starred while man of the match Dave Norman and prop Gary Taylor ran hard.
The second half was more evenly balanced, with Acorn showing up more in attack, with good contributions from substitutes Darren Crake and Ex-York Wasps man Leigh Deakin, the latter making his debut on the wing after nearly two years' absence from the game.
However, Acorn could not get on the scoresheet and were hit by a stunning late try by Great Britain Under-23 full-back Kieron Kavannagh, who rounded the cover to touch down under the posts after a great passing move.
Capewell converted and completed the scoring with a late penalty.
