A hat-trick from teenager Scott Emmerson on his starting debut saw York City reserves record a remarkable 5-1 triumph over Darlington at Feethams in the Avon Insurance League Cup last night,
The victory came despite the sending-off of transfer-listed midfielder Craig Skinner after just ten minutes for violent conduct.
The set-back did little harm however as City, thanks to Emmerson's hat-trick and two goals from John Williams, raced into a 3-0 half-time lead and went 5-0 up after the break before the Quakers grabbed a consolation.
Emmerson, a second year youth trainee, 18, is in a rich vein of form having scored two goals for the intermediates last weekend.
Emmerson and his team mates have been drawn to face the winners of Stoke v Wolverhampton in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup in the New Year.
However, their visit to either the Britannia Stadium or Molineux will depend on the City youngsters beating Huddersfield in their third round tie at Bootham Crescent on December 7.
