Due to a mix up in communications a mixed York RI under-13/14s played host to a mixed under-14/15 Malton and Norton side.
The bigger Malt forwards made the most of that advantage to win 27-12.
RI trailed 17-0 at half-time but foughtback well in the second half.
Thomas Heslop broke from his own 22 to score under the posts with Dan Pfluger adding the conversion.
A further try from No 8 Robin Grice from a set scrum near Malton's line got RI right back in the game but Malton responded with a couple of breakaway tries to seal victory.
