The latest City of York Council officer to land a top national post has been revealed as Peter Berry.
The authority's assistant chief executive, with responsibility for marketing and corporate affairs, is leaving to become head of communications for the new National College for School Leadership, launched by Tony Blair last week.
During 14 years at the council, Mr Berry's department won awards and was named Best Council Public Relations Team in 1998.
He said: "I'm proud to have played a part in one of Britain's most-widely respected councils, but the new job enables me to help shape a national initiative and that's an exciting challenge."
