Selby's Carl Paterson booted his side to an unlikely victory in Yorkshire One with a last-gasp penalty from inside his own half.
Visiting Pontefract were 14-5 ahead in the dying minutes when Selby produced a great comeback to the delight of their Sandhill Lane supporters.
John Webster forced his way over for a try which Paterson, who had a spell with York Wasps RL early last season, tagged on the conversion.
But consolation was turned into victory moments later when Pontefract conceded a penalty five yards inside the Selby half and Paterson stepped up to slot over the kick to give his side a 15-14 victory that moves them into third place.
Cleckheaton still dominate the division, having made it ten successive league wins with a narrow 22-19 victory at Yarnbury maintaining their 100 per cent record.
Selby travel to struggling North Ribblesdale on Saturday while Cleckheaton take on Huddersfield YMCA's formidable pack.
