YORK youngsters have been doing their bit for the environment as part of National Tree Week.
Pupils from Year Three to Year Six at St Aelred's RC Primary School in the city have been restoring their nature area.
The last tree planting took place six years ago, but the area was vandalised just a few weeks later.
All the pupils had a chance to take part in digging holes, cleaning out the pond and planting trees.
Meanwhile, 150 Year Seven pupils from Archbishop Holgate's CE School planted a variety of trees in five different areas of the school's site.
They also planted spring bulbs next to the school's main driveway.
They were given a helping hand by former pupils who donated money to the project, and there was a special appearance by York City striker Scott Jordan, who assisted with the planting.
Almost 1,500 trees are to be planted on an industrial estate close to a village north of York. The trees, 1,485 in total, are to be placed along Goose Lane, in the Green Park Industrial Estate, near Sutton-on-the-Forest.
