YORK cruised to success in the premier division of the Yorkshire Squash League, beating Huddersfield 4-1. It was York's third win in four games and even their only defeated player, Nathan Hill, went down fighting in five sets.
Wigginton beat York 4-1 in the Yorkshire League division 2A derby match at Clifton Park which began with Nick Clifford, at five, beating York's Neil Chambers 3-1. Clifford led 2-0 and was 7-3 up in the third but Chambers clawed his way back to take the game 10-9. The score in the fourth game was 4-4 when a let seemed to unsettle Chambers and Clifford went on to win.
York surprisingly promoted Ben Prokop up the order from four to two but he was no match for the experienced Ian Tooms, who won for the loss of just five points.
John Lethem destroyed York's Matthew Stephenson, Matthew Lowery beat Wigginton's Owen Humphries and Wigginton captain Ian Cordell defeated Chris Plowman 3-1.
Cordell led 2-0 and 7-1 but Plowman fought back, saving five match balls to take the game 10-9. Cordell, with a barrage of backhand drop shots, took a 7-1 lead in the fourth and this time Plowman had no answers.
