New Earswick Indoor Bowls Club, beaten finalists last year, began their Hebden Trophy new campaign with a 101-65 win against Metrodome.

New Earswick won three rinks to one and took 12 points from the match.

Ken Carter, Alf Lewis, Tommy Haldon and John Allan got seven shots on the first end and a six on the 14th end on their way to winning 30-13.

Eric Ward, Dave Sykes, Barry Harrison and Stephen Long junior won 27-14 in the other rink played at New Earswick.

Brian Gray, Gordon Thompson, George Williams and Dennis Ellis won 24-16 at Metrodome though their opponents scored on seven of the last eight ends.

Mal Beavers, Ron Wood, Ray Bowman and Mick Stannard lost 22-20 after having been 19-6 down with seven ends to play.

York & District Indoor Bowls Club, playing their second game in the Top Ten tournament, beat Featherstone 'A' 84-49 to gain the maximum 15 points.

David Stroughair, Dave Hewick and Mal Harrison, playing in the triples at home, pulled away to win 20-14 after being 11-10 down after 11 ends. They then won all but the last end.

Paul Mooring and Graham Instone won 22-8 at home in the Pairs. After trailing 8-4 after eight ends they won the remaining ten ends.

At Featherstone, Mick Parker, Fred Clayden, Graham Brooke and Phil Parsons won 21-18, while John Emmerson won 21-9 in the Singles.

York's latest up and coming young player Duane Kellett had an impressive win in the National Championships Under-25 men's singles, beating England Under 25 international Sam Winger, from Hull

Kellett was losing 16-14 after 17 ends but scored a 1,2,2,1 dnd a 1 to win 21-16.

John Emmerson, Roger Ford and Paul Mooring, 15-13 down with two ends to play, scored a four and a one to beat Hull's Blackburn, Spaven and Hodgson 18-15.
