York is to get another new watering hole in the form of a Mediterranean theme bar - but councillors warned they are to get tough on noise from such premises.
The owners of Oscar's Wine Bar, in Little Stonegate, have been granted their application to transform a three-storey warehouse on the corner of Back Swinegate and Finkle Street into a bar and restaurant.
After confirming there were no licensing problems with the new venture, councillors expressed concern about music being so loud it can be heard outside.
They commented on many bars and pubs in the area which do not have permission to have speakers outside, so they play loud music inside with open doors so it can be heard outside.
