York Wasps will have two new faces in their team against Featherstone Rovers on Friday (7.30pm) after making a double swoop on the amateur game.
Coach Lee Crooks has snapped up 23-year-old winger Tim Rumford and scrum-half Gareth Oulton, 22, from National Conference League outfit Castleford Lock Lane.
Former Heworth junior Rumford, who played for Castleford Tigers Alliance side last season, had a spell at York in 1997 when he made five substitute appearances in the first team. He has re-joined the Wasps on a one-season contract
Castleford-based Oulton is the son of Willie Oulton, who played at full-back for Leeds in their 1978 Challenge Cup final win over St Helens.
He played for Hunslet in 1997 before returning to the amateur ranks with Townville and then Lock Lane.
Both players go straight into the starting line-up for Friday's pre-season clash at the Lionheart Stadium.
Oulton, who has signed triallist forms, replaces Gareth Stephens, who strained a hamstring in the 8-0 defeat by Hunslet Hawks last Friday.
Rumford will be on the right wing in place of Chris Allen.
"He is a nice footballer and all being well we can improve his skills and be a good acquisition. Tim is quick and has a good pair of hands," said Crooks.
Wasps' final pre-season match is at home to Gateshead Thunder on Sunday, November 26, a week before the Wasps get their NFP season underway at home to Doncaster Dragons on December 3.
Two buses are being laid on for York fans travelling to Friday's match at the Lionheart Stadium.
The Supporters' Club coach will leave Huntington Stadium at 5.30pm, with various pick-up points. The cost is £6.50 for club members and £7.50 for non-members.
For details or to confirm a place, contact Louise on 07759-367839 or Michael on 07703-344306.
The club will also be running a bus, which leaves the Stadium at 5.45pm. Cost is £5 and to book contact Ann Garvey at the club office on 01904 634636.
