It's boom time for Radcliffe Borough - and it couldn't have come a moment too soon.

York City's Sunday foes in the FA Cup first round have hit hard times, but the UniBond League division one outfit are currently on two cup trails that could swell the coffers and bring some glory.

The north Manchester club have moved the FA Cup tie to Nationwide League neighbours Bury's Gigg Lane ground. It may be a money spinner, but for manager Kevin Glendon he would have liked to have got Terry Dolan's Minstermen on their own Stainton Park track.

"To play on our own ground would have been great, but the police were consulted and when it came to safety and costs we simply couldn't play at Stainton Park," explained Glendon.

"While we have to pay facility fees at Gigg Lane, we might just get a bigger crowd.

"We really can't tell, but hopefully a fair few York fans will get there - at least they will know where the ground is.

"But it is not all about making money and we will be going out to win this one and see just how far we can get."

However, Glendon is nothing if not a realist and while he argued that his side were not underdogs when they took on UniBond premier division rivals Burscough in the fourth qualifying round, he knows that the Minstermen provide a whole different challenge.

"While Burscough are premier division this time, it is only a season ago that we were in the running for promotion with them, and we took four points off them," he said, of the side they beat 2-1 on Saturday when the oft postponed replay was finally played.

"So I never felt we were underdogs, but with the tie being postponed so many times you did have the feeling it was becoming more of a lottery. As it was we looked nervy to start with, but once we got the first goal we looked good.

"While we never felt like underdogs against Burscough we certainly feel that we are against York. I don't know much about the actual side, but they're a League club and we will ensure that we are as prepared as we can be."

However, while they are itching to take their first step in the first round proper - their previous best in the FA Cup was the third qualifying round - they have the small matter of an FA Trophy first round replay at home to Leek Town tonight (7.30pm).

"It is a big game for us and if we win it we will face Accrington in the next round," said Glendon. "As you can imagine that is a rather important local derby in this neck of the woods and we would like to give our fans yet another big day to look forward to.

"But these matches are a big bonus for us. At the end of last season we had to sell players and the club is up for sale, but the FA Cup and the FA Trophy games have got the club buzzing again."

City boss Terry Dolan will cast his eye over Radcliffe against Leek tonight.

City fans should note that the game at Gigg Lane will be pay on the day. Prices are £10 for adults and £5 for concessions. The City travel club will run coaches from Bootham Crescent at 12.30pm, with the prices £8 for members and £10 for non-members.
