City of York's hopes of carrying their hot form in the National Cup into the Northern Counties League were dashed as they dropped home points in a 1-1 draw with Hull.
Having knocked their Humberside rivals out of the knockout competition with a golden goal last weekend, City were hoping to revive a flagging premier division campaign with success over the same outfit.
However, the course of the contest proved similar to six days before with the full-time whistle being reached with the sides tied.
Hull opted for the same tactics of lying deep and looking to hit City on the break, leaving the home side to make the running.
Short corners came and went but City struggled to break the visitors' resolve and on the break Hull troubled their rivals. On one such raid they won a penalty flick which was duly converted.
City managed an equaliser before half-time when a move down the right led to a goalmouth scramble and Mike Thornicroft was on hand to force the ball home.
The second half was a lack-lustre affair and, though City forced a couple of saves from the Hull keeper, York had to settle for a point but it was a result that sent them to the bottom of the table.
There was stalemate as City of York II came away from Stockton with a 0-0 draw in division two in the East Pennine section.
After a slow start City piled on the pressure and came close when a Nick Carter strike was blocked by the home keeper only for the ball to loop up and hit the crossbar.
With Stockton happy to soak up pressure and hit on the break, the onus was on City to open up the game and in the second half they did so with Colin Moore, Rob Blackburn and Chris Dutton all going close.
In the dying stages Stockton failed to score when presented with an open goal and so City returned home perhaps happier with the point than they might have been.
It pays never to assume anything and Hallam University could live to rue their decision not to travel to York for their league clash with City of York III.
The students presumed that the floods in York meant they would be without a fixture, however City's pitch was playable and the thirds in the end had to settle for a run out against their own fourth string as the Sheffield side failed to show.
It proved a tough trial as the fourths, with Adam Jackson performing well in midfield, put on a strong display and only a second half strike from Roz Ramli separated the sides in the thirds 1-0 win.
And City of York V will also be looking to put in a claim for league points after their fixture at Leeds University IV had to be called off after the students found their pitch had been double booked.
City of York VI went down 5-1 at Slazengers III, but will feel that the scoreline did not reflect their efforts.
City got off to a nightmare start as they conceded two quick goals, but they clawed their way back and they reduced the deficit by half-time when Richard Tanner-Smith found the target.
The second half was proving evenly balanced but with 20 minutes elapsed the Horbury outfit bagged two goals within three minutes and then went on to add a late fifth as City tired.
There was another poor start made by City of York VII as they took on Slazengers IV, but on this occasion City recovered to gain a point from a 2-2 draw.
The Horbury side went in front after ten minutes, the shot being deflected out of goalkeeper Mark Bunn's reach, and the visitors added a second minutes before half-time.
But City showed great spirit and with Clive Appleyard and Tom Duncan influential, they managed to pull a goal back through Dick Bowen.
Duncan continued to prompt from midfield and City's perseverance paid off when James Still belted in the equaliser four minutes from time.
City of York VIII lacked their more experienced heads for their clash with Leeds University V and it was a telling factor as they went down 4-2.
Roger Andrews played the guiding role as City battled to keep the students at bay and the ploy seemed to be working as goals from Andy Wilson and Tim Downey gave City a 2-1 half-time lead.
However, an early strike in the second period gave the students all the confidence they needed and a stretched City side eventually succumbed.
In the Yorkshire Youth League City of York under-14 girls were in good form.
Goals from Lucy Butcher (2), Katherine Burnett and Samantha Yeoman earned a 4-1 win over Sheffield Bankers and they battled hard before going down narrowly 1-0 to Bradford.
In their final game they held much of the possession but ended up drawing 0-0 with Wakefield A.
