Tadcaster showed their resolve as they earned an impressive 1-0 win at Chapeltown in the Yorkshire League.

The visitors were denied possession for long periods and were forced to work hard in defence, but in the end they could easily have won the match by a much wider margin.

They got the best of starts when skipper Jim Cattle came up with an intelligent strike from a free hit which allowed Matt Boyle to slip his marker and beat the Sheffield side's goalkeeper from close range.

Tadcaster had to battle to retain their lead into the second period, but slowly they began to gain more possession as frustration set in amongst the home ranks.

Boyle was unlucky not to end the game with a hat-trick as Tadcaster mounted a series of attacks and it was only the heroics of the home 'keeper that denied him more than his match-winning goal.

Tadcaster II enjoyed a roller-coaster ride of a clash with Bradford, running out 3-2 victors.

Tadcaster were quickly into their stride as they forced visitors back into their own territory for long periods, but it was not until the 25th minutes that the home side gained the lead.

Right-half Wayne Conner was the provider with Richard Holmes finding room to flick the powerful cross into the roof of the Bradford net.

The right flank route proved productive again five minutes later when Paul Oxterby provided the cross and this time striker Rob Hill fired the ball into the net, making up for an earlier miss when he had been unlucky to see a firm strike come back off a post.

Bradford decided that their only option was to break out in the second half, but they found their attempts to get movements going were repeatedly broken down by the tenacity of Mally Stewart in midfield.

Stewart then turned from destroyer to creator as he slipped through a perfect pass for Holmes to go on and hammer in his second goal.

Tadcaster should really have had the game sewn up but Bradford kept pushing forward and managed to force a reply through their left winger with ten minutes remaining.

Within a minute Tadcaster goalkeeper Sutton had to be out sharply to deny a breakaway goal, but when he tried to block a similar raid soon after the ball ran free for the Bradford right winger to slot home their second.

From being in a position of security, Tadcaster were now sweating and they had Sutton to thank that they did not throw away a win as he made a fine save on his own goal-line in the final minute.
