York's three top amateur clubs could play a part in rugby league history when the draw for the first round of the Silk Cut Challenge Cup is made tonight.

Bangor Vikings will become the first club from Northern Ireland to take part, while Newcastle University and Glasgow Bulls also enter the competition for the first time.

They could be drawn against Heworth, New Earswick All Blacks or York Acorn, who are all in the hat.

A total of 48 amateur clubs go into the first round draw. The 14 clubs from the National Conference League premier division enter at the second round stage, the Northern Ford Premiership clubs at the third round and Super League clubs at the fourth.

The final will be played at Twickenham, home of rugby union, for the first time.
