It is such good news to hear that First York is planning to improve York's public transport services.

I live in Woodthorpe and attend York Sixth Form College. As such, I don't need to use buses daily, so I am often faced with changing schedules and I am never quite sure just where I am going.

The main journey I make is from Woodthorpe to Rawcliffe, where my girlfriend lives. But there is no regular bus service between the two. I had resolved this by using the Park and Ride, only to be told that tickets are non-transferable between lines, so a one-way journey would end up costing me £3 and a return £3.20.

The proposals published in the Evening Press (November 9) sound fantastic as long as the schedules are fulfilled. They will undoubtedly restore the faith and pride of York residents in their public transport system.

...I cannot believe bus fares have risen again (November 10). It would be justified if buses actually turned up and were on time.

First York buses are about as reliable as a ten-year-old car. Even the car would have an advantage - it would certainly get to town quicker.

I thought with all the floods York has suffered caused by global warming, we would be invited onto buses to ease car use and help the environment. But oh no, First York have to put their fares up.

I now expect many a long wait at the bus stop.

...Two new bus services operating in the city - the Y28 and Y29 - offer vehicles that are warm, comfortable and punctual. The drivers are courteous and considerate. Please support them.

I live in an area where the First York buses are very unreliable so it is great to have this new service.
