No more Mr Nice Guys is the battle cry of midfield tormentor Kevin Hulme ahead of the visit of Torquay United to Bootham Crescent tomorrow.
With skipper Steve Agnew, plagued by a hamstring injury, suspended, Hulme is vying with Scott Jordan for a place along-side Lee Bullock in the City engine room.
Whatever manager Terry Dolan's deci-sion, Hulme, yet to start a game for the Minstermen since mid-September, is adamant after last week's 4-0 drubbing at Cardiff that soft-touch York must get meaner.
Speaking to the Evening Press, Hulme, 32, said: "We go on a run of a couple of games but that is not really a run - a run is ten games of being solid.
"But at the moment we are too soft, too nice to teams. We think we are back after a couple of wins but then revert to our old selves and press the self-destruct button.
"The gaffer keeps telling us to be more aggressive and that is what we need run-ning through the whole of the team."
With Hulme's game based on breaking up opposing advances and getting forward to help the attack, it could be suggested his return to fitness after hamstring troubles couldn't be better timed.
"Anytime is a good time to get back into the team," he said.
"But my game is about aggression and getting forward to get some goals.
"That is one thing I have been lacking this season; getting goals, although to be fair I haven't really had the opportunity.
"But when I have been watching lately we have created so hopefully that will continue if I return.
"We have got to take three points tomor-row. There are a lot of hard games in this league so you have got to win your home games. It's another big game."
The midfielder has added incentive to make an impact tomorrow should he be called-upon by Dolan.
His 45 minute showing at Cardiff last Saturday resulted in his fifth yellow card of the season and means he is suspended for City's first round FA Cup tie next Sunday.
That means he could miss out on facing the club where he began his career, Rad-cliffe Borough, should they come through their fourth qualifying replay against Burscough tomorrow.
Hulme was still a teenager when he fin-ished top scorer with Radcliffe in his first season and was snapped up by Bury for £5,000 in 1989.
