All the York Sunday Afternoon League games succumbed to the weather last weekend but two North Riding FA Challenge Cup ties did take place, with both ending in elimination of Sunday Afternoon sides.
York Nomads 85 played host to John Smith's second division side Derwent Arms. The ground was playable due to Nomads sloping pitch at Long Marston and the home side's decision to play uphill in the first-half looked set to pay dividends with no goals coming in the first half hour.
But poor marking allowed the visitors to score twice before the break. They doubled their lead with two goals in a minute just after the interval before Gaz Gavin and Phil Reeves reduced the arrears to 4-2.
Against the run of play, Derwent responded when Bond rounded the 'keeper to score 12 minutes from time. Although Jamie Agnew pulled it back to 5-3 with a stunning free-kick, the pub side's place in the third round was never really in doubt.
In the other tie Clifton Hotel made the trip to Scarborough to take on Trafalgar and they too conceded five goals, scoring only one in reply.
