An inquest heard how a Ryedale couple had discovered their baby not breathing in his cot a few hours after he had been put to bed happy and healthy.
North Yorkshire East Coroner Michael Oakley recorded a verdict of death by natural causes on Harvey Douglas Spencer, aged five months of Ingsgarth, Pickering.
Home Office pathologist Michael Green said in a statement that death was due to sudden infant death syndrome - cot death.
Harvey's mother, Helen Spencer, said the family had moved to Pickering from Dewsbury earlier this year. She, Harvey and her other son had had "'a lovely day" and Harvey had been put to bed after his usual bathtime.
Her husband, Alan, had gone upstairs four hours later to find Harvey discovered he was not breathing.
