York power-pop rock band Sugartown will play an in-store live show between 5pm and 6pm tonight at the Virgin Megastore, in Coney Street, York.
Vocalist Matt Burt, guitarist Andrew Jackson and the Martin twins, bass guitarist Tom and keyboard player James, will be performing a "full-on electric set" in support of their new EP, which will be on sale at £5. Admission is free.
The six-track EP, The Next Big Thing, features such numbers as Wonderland, Mama's TV (Ode To Chesney Hawkes) and the lead track, Freefallin'. That song has brought Sugartown a management contract in the USA with an offshoot of Universal, and now the group's demo is to be touted around the "big five" labels.
Andrew Jackson says: "We had to call the EP The Next Big Thing. With a title like that, you can't throw it away without listening to it, can you?"
Now Sugartown, whose members are all aged 21, are looking to make further progress in the new year with the fresh American boost.
