York police are appealing for witnesses to an unprovoked attack on a man in the centre of the city.
The assault happened in Clarence Street on Friday, when a man walking towards Gillygate was approached by four men.
One carried out an unprovoked attack on the man by knocking him to the floor and then kicking and punching him on the ground.
The victim needed hospital treatment for fractured ribs and bruising to his head and face.
All four of the men are described as being white, aged about 18, about 5ft 10in tall, wearing baggy tracksuit trousers and baseball caps.
