Hello there! I have just discovered this wonderful website. I was born in York in 1958 and have been living in Winnipeg, Canada, for the past 12 years.
A few years ago Winnipeg went through severe flooding and a massive sandbagging effort by mostly ordinary people saved the actual city from being flooded, although outlying homes and farms were not so lucky.
I would like to offer my condolences to all the people who have had their homes flooded.

...WE are avidly following your excellent coverage of the floods in York. Though we are in Saudi Arabia, we hope the floods don't reach our house out near the ring road as we have been told they have got to Eastholme Drive.
We follow all your news on a daily basis and find it a great link with home.
Our children will be bringing the newspapers at Christmas.

Saudi Arabia.
...Hope you're all 'surviving' the floods, we've had quite a bit of television coverage about them here. I've been getting a daily update when I read my 'Evening Press' each day on the internet.
I'm originally from York, and have been living in New Zealand for more than 20 years. It's wonderful to be able to catch up on all the news and stories from my old home.
I just want to say a huge thank you for your wonderful, informative web site.

...We were most interested to see the wonderful articles in The Evening Press on the York Millennium Bridge. York was our home town before we emigrated to Australia in 1965.
We were married in St Clements Church in 1954 and returned for holidays in 1990 and 1996 but had no knowledge of the bridge being planned.
Reading the Press on the internet is a great way to keep in touch - sadly the floods have been dominating the news, which have been devastating for lots of people, our hearts go out to them.
However we were delighted to read about not only the bridge but the plant-ings and conservation initiatives. The history connected to the project was excellent too, another piece of Historic York to show our children and grandchildren.
We look forward to many more pages of the Evening Press.
Thank you to all concerned.

...Howdi from Tennessee. Good to see the photos of York. Pictures of York in or out of flood are always impressive. Keep up the fighting spirit, I wish I was there to help.

...Thanks for providing a fantastic web site. My husband and I moved from York to Liverpool two and a half years ago now, and have been keenly watching how York has been coping with the floods.
Although we have relatives in York who we constantly phone to find out how they are doing, the pictures we can see on the web pages are what we really needed to fully understand the situation.
