City of York Council today released details of an evacuation plan as emergency workers prepared to deal with flooding on the River Ouse.

Workers are warning people in the areas most at risk from further flooding to listen out for details of what to do in the event of evacuation.

People have been alerted to listen out throughout the morning for any severe flood warning on the radio or by loud-hailer.

The Council has prepared a leaflet, which outlines what precautions to take in the event of evacuation, such as where to go to, travel arrangements, preparing an overnight bag, and what to do about medications.

The river defences are still being checked regularly and the army, police, bus companies and respite centres at Archbishop Holgate School and York College are on standby.

Leaflets will be delivered in person to areas most effected and representatives will also tannoy people to alert them should there be any danger of either the River Foss or Ouse flooding once again.

The council will do this as soon as they know whether the rivers are likely to flood.

Areas which will be most at risk are Rawcliffe, Clifton Green, Naburn, Acaster Malbis, Bootham Terrace, Clementhorpe, Bishopthorpe, Leeman Road and the Foss area, including Osbaldwick, Tang Hall Beck, Huntington Road and Melrosegate.

The Floodline has been alerted to this and further information is available on 01904 552999.
