New Earswick All Blacks produced another superb display at Cottingham Tigers but again suffered an agonising defeat in National Conference League division two, going down 28-24.
Had they had a recognised goal-kicker - Dave Carling sustained a broken hand last week and Carl Pallister was unavailable - the All Blacks would almost certainly have claimed their fourth win of the season.
As it was, Mick Harrison took on the kicking duties and converted just two from six attempts.
Hooker Martin McTigue was the star of the All Blacks show, scoring a hat-trick of tries.
But after fighting back from 26-12 down 10 minutes into the second half, New Earswick just failed to find the winning score.
Their cause was not helped by the double sin-binning of Mick McTigue and Paul Booth, along with a Cottingham player, which was followed by the sending off of John Leach for dissent.
The other try-scorers for the All Blacks were Trevor Sadler and Jez Petch, while Tigers winger Paul Campbell scored three for the home side.
York Acorn's Jekyll and Hyde home form continued with another shocker against lowly Dewsbury Moor.
Acorn's defeat owed much to their inept tackling which allowed Dewsbury to breach the line almost at will.
Danny Liddell and Stephen Waldron scored first-half tries and John Hough kicked two goals as Acorn trailed 22-12 at half-time.
Although loose forward Michael Embleton and under-18s player Nicky Caldwell scored late consolation tries in the second half, the damage was already done as Dewsbury cruised to a 36-22 win which saw Acorn drop a place to fifth in the table.
