Military "Top Brass" were among the VIP guests at the tenth Festival of Remembrance at York Barbican Centre last night.
York Royal British Legion branch president and festival chairman Ted Griffiths said there were distinguished guests from all three services at the event, though they were not in uniform for security reasons.
York Lord Mayor Coun Shan Braund also attended.
About 50 Royal British legion standards were in the opening parade, with music being provided by the Normandy Band of the Queen's Division and soloist Janina Sweetenham.
Narrator for the event, commemorating events in the Second World War, was York actor John White, who is known professionally as Richard Conway.
