Mr Skilbeck, 54, a married man with two adult children and one grandchild, was brought up and educated at Helmsley, where he still has family.
He has spent more than 20 years in the NHS, beginning as a nurse working with people with learning disabilities and then working through various operational and management posts in both community and hospital services to become chief executive of the Western Isles Health Board in Scotland.
