Some of St Leonard's smallest supporters have made their own special contribution to the hospice gardens.
Eight children aged three and four from St Paul's Nursery, in St Paul's Square, Holgate, York, planted a silver pendant lime tree in the grounds with help from the hospice's volunteer gardening team.
Accompanied by acting head teacher Jane Woolgar and teacher Josie Good, they also gave St Leonard's chief executive Steven Harker a £50 cheque to pay for the tree.
The nursery, which has 109 children, has been holding fundraising events since our Hospice 2000 Appeal was launched.
As part of their Millennium celebrations they set a target of collecting 2000 10p coins and raise £200 for the appeal.
The collection was so successful that they decided to buy a tree to plant in the grounds with the money that was left over.
