Flooding in North Yorkshire is threatening Tadcaster Albion's Northern Counties East League division one meeting with Parkgate - even though they are playing away.

While the trip to Rotherham gives Albion a good chance of being in action after their match against Bridlington was called off due to the rising waters last weekend, Tadcaster have hit another problem in that they cannot get to their kit.

Their home ground The Park, Ings Lane, would probably be better re-named The Lake as the floodwaters have engulfed not just the playing area but also the clubhouse.

"When we went down for training on Tuesday night the only thing we could see out on the pitch was the crossbars," said Albion boss Wayne Day.

"But to be honest that was far from our main concern, because we could not get to the clubhouse. The water at the moment is a good six or seven feet deep across the whole site.

"As things stand we still cannot get in there and that means we have no kit, no first aid gear and we cannot get to the footballs either.

"We are pretty sure that the water will have got into the building anyway, so we don't really know what state the kit will be in even if we get into the clubhouse.

"If the situation stays the same we are going to have to contact the league and see if they will allow us to use a borrowed strip for the match."

It has been a frustrating week for Day as training has been hit hard by the lack of facilities, but he was able to pull his squad together last night for a training session on an all-weather surface in Sherburn.

"Obviously we were never going to be able to use our own ground and an arrangement we made to train at Tadcaster Grammar School came to nothing when their grounds began to flood as well," explained Day.

"But we have managed to hastily book an all-weather pitch in Sherburn, and we have booked in for the whole of November because we just cannot tell when we will be able to use our own facilities."

However, even an away date does not hold any guarantees for Tadcaster as Parkgate's Roundwood home is also low lying.

"Their pitch is notorious for being heavy," said Day.

"It tends to hold water anyway, so if the weather has been half as bad down there the chances are that it will be in doubt."

That could mean further frustration for new signing Russ Lamb.

The centre-back was set to make his Albion debut last weekend against Bridlington and now could be made to wait again if their is a postponement at Parkgate.

However, should the game go ahead, Day is in the position of getting selection headaches because he has an embarrassment of riches.

"While we have been fairly lucky with injuries this season and I have also had plenty of players and plenty of quality to play with, we have now got everyone ready to play," enthused Day.

"Lee Maguire is available again, Ross Bardey had flu last week but is fit again now and we have 'keeper Carl Forrester available again after work commitments had kept him out.

"So I can add those three to the 14 I had called on last weekend and, having 17 to select from, I can't say yet what the side will be."
