A pitch inspection today was set to determine whether Scarborough's Nationwide Conference match against Hereford United tomorrow will go ahead.

Last night's heavy rain, added to the previous deluge, means the game was in doubt due to possible waterlogging.

However, the McCain Stadium pitch is known to drain well.

Earlier in the week, the pitch was under several inches of water after the Edgehill Beck overflowed, but by yesterday morning it had recovered to be perfectly playable.

Should the game go ahead, Boro player-manager Neil Thompson will be without full-back Matty Russell, who is ruled out after turning an ankle in training.

Russell came on as substitute in the 4-3 FA Cup defeat by Leigh RMI last week, and Thompson, whose side have not won in six games, is likely to make further changes to the team that featured in that loss - a result which denied the Seadogs a money-spinning first round proper home tie with Division Two big-boys Millwall.

Meanwhile, the Boro boss has received some interest for transfer-listed striker Chris Tate, but it is understood that any potential deal is not imminent.

Darlington, Carlisle United and Brighton had all made enquiries earlier this season about taking the player on a loan basis.

Thompson, who is seeking to wheel and deal in a bid to freshen up his squad, has circulated details to all Division Two and Three clubs, together with Conference outfits, of a number of players who are available for transfer or loan.

Squad (v Hereford United): Woods, Ingram, Rennison, Thompson, Ellender, Brunton, Stoker, Jones, Pounder, Williams, Brodie, Tate, Diallo, Newton, Shuttleworth, Gildea.
