IT SEEMS the introduction of high-speed trains on tracks originally designed for slower trains producing less torque on bends, could be the cause of failing tracks now.
Were these tracks properly up-graded to take the increased strain put on them by high-speed trains when these were first introduced? If not, why not?
I hope the new tracks now being laid are up to the demands made on them now and in the future when train speeds are likely to increase.
Thought must be given to straightening bends impossible to negotiate at high speeds and where trains are unable to slow down sufficiently, in time to take the new trains safely.
