JUST as I was thinking a David Essex-style purple tunic, fastened with silver studs, would go well with my denims and Docs, concealing (in my case) a multitude of sins, I read the Evening Press review (October 27) of David's Thank You Tour.
Thankfully, the review itself was most favourable but stated: 'Essex can only be described as a scruffy so-and-so...'
Now come on, Status Quo were similarly attired. What are rock superstars supposed to wear? Sharp Italian suits? Satin and sequins? I don't think so.
Both these events at York's Barbican Centre were fantastic.
David Essex as your review mentioned is: 'a Cockney with personality...' He certainly annihilates any north-south divide.
Along with nearly everyone else, I got up on to my 'plates of meat' - but the woman who shouted: "I love you, David" several times during the performance wasn't me.
Honestly.
