THE bus service to and from Strensall gets worse by the day. The buses, some of which should be scrapped, are very often late or do not arrive.
Elderly passengers have to stand waiting, holding shopping, without seating or shelter opposite the Theatre Royal.
The passengers cannot rely on getting to the station or a dental appointment on time. Going to Asda is a major operation, involving changing buses at Huntington or Stonebow. Except for the free bus on Fridays there is no longer a service to Haxby. Even the Tesco contract bus is unreliable.
Arriving back very late in Strensall from York, I spoke to an elderly woman who visits her sick husband in Moor Lane Nursing Home every day. She said she had been standing waiting more than three-quarters of an hour by the time the bus returned from the terminus shed.
It's hard to imagine how the bus company won its monopoly position.
No wonder people prefer their cars.
