ANOTHER crash on the A64 at Golden Hill today will prompt more calls for the immediate closure of the overtaking lane.
Thankfully, those involved have not suffered serious injury. This notorious stretch of road has already claimed too many lives. The latest fatalities occurred only two days ago, when two young people died and three others were badly hurt in an horrific head-on collision.
The Highways Agency plans to close the crawler lane in spring for an experimental period. It must think again in the light of these latest crashes. The lane should be closed immediately in an attempt to end the carnage.
