BUSINESS failures in Yorkshire fell by two-thirds in September, according to startling latest figures published by professional services firm Deloitte & Touche.
There were eight receivership and administration appointments in the region last month, compared with 24 in August. Nationally, the number of receiverships fell from 155 in August to 100 in September.
Angus Martin, reorganisation services partner in the Leeds office of Deloitte & Touche, said: "The September figures are reassuring. The big increase in business failures in August suggested that the regional economy might be slowing down, but last month's figures are back in line with a normal September. They suggest that August, which saw the highest monthly total since January, was a blip".
Nevertheless, taken together, the August and September figures reflect the results of Deloitte & Touche's recent economic review, which predicted that economic growth in the UK would be "weaker this year than originally forecast."
