Two people have died following an road traffic accident on the A64 at the bottom of Golden Hill, near Malton.
One of the two people killed in the accident, which involved two cars, was a woman but police have no further details on the identity of the second.
Two men involved in the incident, which happened just before 3.45pm today suffered slight injuries and meanwhile police have closed the road until further notice.
Motorists are being told to avoid the A64 this evening. Diversions have been set up but delays are expected, especially through Castle Howard.
The Evening Press has highlighted the dangers of the overtaking lane at Golden Hill in recent months.
