LIFE has been choc-full of goodness ever since Alf and Violet Matthews met as workmates in Rowntree's chocolate factory at York in 1938.
He developed a soft centre for her - and now they are celebrating their diamond wedding at their home in Jute Road, Acomb.
Although Violet left Rowntree's as soon as she married, Alfred completed 61 years of service before he left.
They waited until 1940 before they married and during the Second World War, Alf was in the army, serving in Norway, North Africa, Sicily and Italy, while Violet worked in an aircraft factory.
The couple have two sons, Geoffrey and Peter, and a daughter, Margaret, and five granddaughters, who were all present at the celebrations at the Dean Court Hotel, York.
Their secret for 60 years of happiness? Violet said: "Looking after each other and just simply being together."
