David Allison's second-half penalty saw Marcia shock New Earswick in the second round of the York John Smith's Bitter Sunday League Cup.

Neil Rankeillor, Barker and Stone gave Acomb a 3-0 half-time lead but goals from Joe Gaughan (2) and Russ Barley brought Volunteers level before a second goal from Rankeillor and one for Alan Sanderson saw Acomb through.

An outstanding midfield performance by Mark Haigh helped division six outfit Opticare cause another upset with victory at Wilberfoss from division three. Simon Mason was Opticare's match-winner, though, with the only goal of the game.

Battling Haxby Lions also beat opposition from a higher league when they came from two goals down to record a 3-2 victory over Pack of Cards.

Yorkshire Herald were taken to extra time before goals from John Alcock and Graham Ward finally broke down the stubborn resistance of Carlton FC.

After a tight first half which saw Nestl Rowntree lead by the only strike against Raskelf, both teams went goal crazy in the second 45 minutes, with Nestl coming out on top 8-4 aided by a hat-trick from Simon Kehoe.

Fowler, Crowther and Clamp were on target as Thorpe United beat Zafs Lions 3-0, while Hounds recorded a 3-1 victory over local rivals Riccall with goals from Cygan, Collier and Tucker.

Severus WMC also had to battle to gain a 2-1 win over Fulford Bay, while two goals from Steve Dunn and one each for James Hurst and Steve Crosby saw York Nomads safely through 4-1 against Acomb Celtic whose reply came from John Kennelly.

Bishopthorpe United won by the odd goal in five against Selby Olympia while Magnet FC won by the same 3-2 scoreline at home to Hemingbrough with goals from Downes, Wilson and Fairburn.

Nestl Flag won 3-1 against York Hotel, Shape Shop defeated Cygnet 4-3 with the help of two goals from Barry Shepherdson, and in the other tie Derwent United had an easy 9-1 win over Inland Revenue.

In the league, Derwent Arms took the honours in division two with a 6-0 demolition of Copmanthorpe. Mark Crangle (3), Anthony Luck (2) and penalty from Steve Dagnall were the scorers for Derwent.

Shipton maintained their 100 per cent record to move to the top of the table with a 4-1 win at the Dell against Jubilee.

Blacksmiths Arms did enough to record a 2-1 win over British Telecom in division three with both goals scored by Glen Hinds. BH Colts beat Black Horse 4-1, while Pocklington hit top form with a 7-0 win a Fulford WMC.

In division four, Beeswing moved to second place with a 7-1 win over struggling Bishopthorpe Reserves, Grayson notching a hat-trick.

Linton-on-Ouse beat Wigginton Grasshoppers 5-3, while Jubilee Reserves shared the points with Derwent United Reserves in a 2-2 draw.

Heworth FC prop up the rest of division five after a 5-0 home defeat at the hands of Keystones, while Middleton Celtic Reserves recorded their first points with a 2-0 victory over Zafs Lions Reserves and Copmanthorpe Reserves moved away from the bottom with a 2-1 win at Boy and Barrel.

Burnholme moved five points clear at the top of division six with a 2-0 win at Enterprise Maff, but two gaols for Nick Read and one for Mark Gregory gave Greyhound a 3-1 win at Beefeater to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Michael Cammidge hit a hat-trick and Paul Worthington scored the other as Wanderers beat a depleted Shape Shop Reserve side 4-0, and Knavesmire and Northern Spirit shared the goals and the points in a 3-3 draw.
