ONE of the happiest annual dinners you could ever wish for took place when a large group of members and friends of the York Amateur Radio Society, sat down to a superb meal at the Beechwood Close Hotel.

Among those present were George Kelley, G5KC and Jimmy Yarker, G3GJY who were present at the first meeting of our society way back in 1947.

Also with us was Gwynne, VK6JG from Perth, Western Australia who is on one of his occasional visits to York.

In between times our President, Dr Ted Newland, G3TMN and some of the members keep in touch with Gwynne over the airwaves whenever possible. Nice to have him with us.

The President's cup was awarded to Ian Welburn, G4EMA to celebrate having his amateur licence for 25 years.

As Dr Newland reminded us, Ian's first transmission took place from our demonstration station at the opening of the National Rail Museum in September 1975.

Seems like only yesterday!

Meetings continue each Friday at 8pm at Guppys Enterprise Club in Nunnery Lane, York.

Visitors are most welcome to come along and see how the York Radio Society operates.
