TRANSFER-listed striker Barry Conlon believes being put up for sale by York City could be the making of him.
"I am still confident in my own ability and this won't knock me back, " said the 21-year-old.
"In fact it might give me that little bit of an extra push to go on from here."
Conlon, City's top scorer last season with 11 goals, said he felt no bitterness although his listing had come as a surprise.
"The manager has got his own ideas and it is up to him what he wants.
"We will just have to wait and see what comes along but I'll keep training hard and working hard."
City chief Terry Dolan revealed his reasons for placing the Irish Under-21 international on the transfer list.
He said: "I just feel he has got a lot of ability but has not being putting it together at the right times.
"I just feel a change will be in his best interests."
City will be looking for a fee although it is unlikely, given the current uncertainty over the transfer system, they will be able to recoup the £100,000 former manager Neil Thompson paid Southend United for his services last year.
The City boss already has fellow striker Marc Williams and midfielder Craig Skinner on the transfer list.
But Dolan gave an indication he is looking to cut further players from his squad when he said: "Barry's name will go on a circular and it will state we will be prepared to listen to offers for several other players."
Dolan's decision to list Conlon, which was first revealed on the Evening Press website - www.thisisyork.co.uk - yesterday, will come as little surprise.
Having acquired Alex Mathie earlier this week, City now have eight strikers on their books, including broken-leg victim Peter Duffield and Marc Williams. Mark Sertori has also been used as a centre-forward by Dolan.
Meanwhile, as City go in search of their first win away from home at Hartlepool tomorrow Dolan is looking for big things from Scott Jordan and Lee Bullock..
As expected, new signing Mathie will make his Minstermen debut alongside David McNiven.
"Hopefully, we won't have to be relying on keeping a clean sheet every week to win games," said Dolan.
"But it is not a case of one new player coming in and making all the difference.
"The difference will be if all the other players improve on what they have been doing.
"Scott got his first full game under his belt last week and I am expecting him to show a lot more on Saturday.
"And it was Lee Bullock's first full League game for a while so those two alongside Steve Agnew I am expecting more from.
"There is Scott, Lee and Christian Fox who I have yet to see the best from them judging by what other people have said. The sooner I see it the better."
Aside from Mathie, Graham Potter is the only other expected addition to the squad from last week.
The former England Under-21 has recovered from a bout of food poisoning that ruled him out against Brighton and will likely start on the bench.
The York boss has confirmed goalkeeping legend Neville Southall will provide first team cover for Alan Fettis for next Friday night's home game with Mansfield Town.
Fettis's deputy, Russ Howarth, will be on England Under-18 duty and Southall, City's goalkeeping coach, has agreed to step into the breach.
Trainee John Collinson will take over net-minding duties for the two reserve games while Howarth is away.
