Jockey Dale Gibson has two good reasons to hope that Prime Recreation can follow-up his recent Ayr success at Musselburgh tomorrow.
Not only does the Boston Spa rider take the mount on the three-year-old, but his father, Alan Gibson, bred the horse at his small stud near Newmarket.
Prime Recreation lines-up for the New Links Pavillion Handicap over five furlongs and is expected to take plenty of catching.
Described by his shrewd trainer Paul Felgate as "a big baby, with plenty of improvement in him," the gelding underlined his potential with a convicing victory at Ayr earlier this month when he went through the soft ground as though it wasn't there.
The handicapper responded to that success by raising Prime Recreation 9lb in the ratings, but the Melton Mowbray sprinter is expected to shrug-off that extra burden by scoring again. He is awarded the Nap vote.
Felgate can also score with Gay Breeze in the Stewards Room Handicap.
A thoroughly honest and consistent sprinter, Gay Breeze has not won for some time, but, because he has run so well so often, his handicap mark has hardly been reduced.
He tries a new distance tomorrow and has Kevin Darley on board. A bold bid is anticipated, even though the stamina of Gay Breeze is unproven over seven furlongs.
Darley, who rode a double at Redcar yesterday to take his score for the season to 151, has good prospects of similar success tomorrow.
The Sheriff Hutton jockey can also lift the Rockavon Bar Maiden Stakes on the promising There With Me, from John Gosden's Manton stable in Berkshire.
Ace Of Trumps, who has been running consistently well in defeat, is overdue a change of luck. James Hetherton's hardy four-year-old might well find opportunity knocking in the Rosebery Hall Caf Handicap over nine furlongs. Significantly, he is a previous winner over this course and distance.
Totem Dancer has only to find a glimpse of her best form to return to winning ways in the Official Opening On Wednesday Handicap. The expected good-to-soft ground will be ideal for Les Eyre's mare.
At Sedgefield, Altapeter is fancied to defy top weight in the Stan James Freephone Handicap Hurdle. Peter Beaumont's strapping gelding is returning from a five-month absence, but runs here instead of fulfulling a second option in stronger company at Wetherby this weekend. Russ Garritty has the mount on the Brandsby gelding.
