THE symphony of bells was a splendid musical idea. Great fun. The city looking wonderful. A sense of occasion. Shame about the traffic, though: intrusive, noisy, dangerous, and most of it quite unnecessary.
Let's do it every October, but make it the one evening in the year when people on foot really take over the city with not a car or lorry in sight. The pleasure of the experience might surprise us all.
